We support and promote a raft of hand selected events that help make sport and exercise accessible to the wider population. Our event support dovetails our support of grass roots sport, clubs, our Junior Academy and professional athletes where aspiring children, exercise newcomers and senior athletes can rub shoulders with Olympians and World-Champions. Participation through aspiration lies at the heart of our health promotion strategy. Below are just some of the events we are currently working with;
HMT Hospitals Monsal Hill Climb
First run in 1930, Monsal Hill Climb has been on the hill climb calendar for an amazing 84 years. This event was started by a few mates riding out to Monsal Head at the end of the track season and timing each other up the hill, at this time it was an unmade road. The event now attracts around 130 local riders from club level to seasoned professionals. Now held on closed roads, it is possibly the only hill climb event where riders aged from 4 to 84 years old come together to compete against world-class athletes.
Pontefract Grand Prix
The inaugural event brought professional cycling to the town of Pontefract for the first time in the towns history in 2015. The close road circuit was opened up to families in the morning of the event before youth, women’s and amateur races were held as curtain raisers to the professional competition. A format that is set to continue in June 2015.
HMT Hospitals “Ride with the Pro’s”
Our hospitals in Grimsby and Swansea play host to informal group bicycle rides that are attended by a number of the professional cyclists supported by HMT including Olympians and World Champions. Rides of approximately 20-25 miles are attended by local cyclists and clubs who relish the opportunity to mix with their sporting heroes. The non-competitive events are held throughout the year and promoted via our website and social media platforms. Be sure to follow us for details of our next events.
Swansea Half Marathon
The Swansea Half Marathon returns in 2015 for a second year with a license to accept twice as many runners as its successful first year. The event is popular with first time runners and seasoned athletes alike to come together for a true test of fitness and personal achievement. HMT Sancta Maria are proud to support the event both financial and with the ‘in kind’ support of professional advice and services.
The Show has evolved into a one stop event for families, schools and couples looking for a fun, educational and entertaining day celebrating all that’s great about Lincolnshire. The Show’s roots will always be in agriculture, but now shopping, delicious food, attractions and rides all have a place in the 200 acre Showground. The main attractions for 2014 include the amazing RAF Falcons, Broke FMX, a motocross bike athletics group jumping 35 feet in the air pulling unbelievable acrobatic stunts and Jive Pony, a group of riders performing gymnastics on horseback – not forgetting the legendary Sheep Show in the Countryside Area!
The largest agricultural county show in Wales. Three days of great entertainment are planned for the Show in 2015. New attractions, improved activity zones, the return of the Fairground, numerous classes for livestock and horses and a host of trade stands to entice vistors. HMT will support the show for another year and our healthcare professionals will offer free advice and support at the event.
