Our people

A team of registered trained nurses manage the care of residents and this is supported by a team of carers. We truly believe that the quality of our care should never be compromised, so we always aim to have a good ratio of staff to residents. In addition, the care staff are assisted by administrative and ancillary staff. We work as a team and everyone in the home, from catering to housekeeping, laundry to maintenance keep the same high standards.

The staff are professional, the setting is beautiful – it really is a wonderful place to be.

Many of our team have worked at the home for years, they are happy here and it is a huge part of their lives. They are carefully recruited and supported with continuous training in order to provide the highest level of physical, spiritual and emotional care. Support Staff
The care staff are assisted by administrative and ancillary staff including those in catering, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance. Everyone is clear in their role and enjoys their own responsibilities within the home. Kitchen staff are committed to providing the very best nutrition. Housekeeping have the very highest standards of cleanliness and care. This means that, on a a day-to-day basis the home works really well.

Recruitment and training
Many of our staff stay with us for years but every now and again we need to recruit. It is a very important process in the home as we are always keen to find members that fit well within the existing team. As with the nursing staff, reliability, honesty, integrity, friendliness and professionalism are all qualities we look for when recruiting support staff. Of course, all prospective employees are screened by the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority and references thoroughly checked before they start. We also have a very comprehensive induction plan to ensure that when new members start they hit the ground running. All staff receive regular training in moving & handling, food safety, health & safety, first aid, fire safety, and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults.

The nursing staff
The nursing staff at Coloma Court are one of the main points of contact for residents and their families, they are also a team that we are extremely proud of. Our registered trained nurses manage the care of residents supported by a team of carers. We always work to have a good ratio of nursing staff on every floor, to keep all residents happy.

Staff recruitment and training
Staff are carefully recruited and supported with continuous training in order to provide the highest level of physical, spiritual and emotional care. All staff members are selected for their qualities of reliability, honesty, integrity, friendliness and professionalism. At Coloma Court particular emphasis is placed on training staff to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents, in a warm and caring atmosphere.

Many of our staff have been with us for years, they are a confident, happy and dedicated team. So when we recruit it is important to that we keep the same high standards.

Maria Covington, the Matron Manager, has more than 20 years nursing experience most of which has been dedicated to caring for the elderly. In fact Maria has worked with the Healthcare Management Trust (HMT) for most of that time.

Maria has been a successful and popular Matron Manager since 2004. Maria is the kind of person that gets things done. She has the very highest of standards and a unique empathy that is needed when working with the older generation. Maria also has an NVQ4 qualification in Healthcare Management.
