Our Response To The Autumn Budget
HMT’s Chief Executive Officer, Nichola Stefanou, shared her perspective on the government’s autumn budget, discussing the increasing pressure on charities like HMT. With HMT’s unique position spanning both sectors, Nichola shared concerns about the implications of limited investment in social care and the additional financial strain on charities.
“The recent government autumn budget has highlighted significant challenges facing the health and social care sectors,” Nichola stated. “As one of a few organisations operating across health and social care, HMT is in a unique position, aware of the effects the budget adjustments will have on our services across both sectors.”
Nichola expressed that the most pressing issue is the budget’s lack of emphasis on social care funding, which adds to existing pressures on the healthcare system.
“The lack of investment in social care places immense strain on the entire system,” she continued. “Without adequate investment in social care, the pressures on hospitals and healthcare services will only increase and create an unsustainable landscape. The lack of investment along with the extra financial burden of the tax changes will threaten to undo the intended impact of NHS funding increases.”
With HMT navigating the consequences of budget changes across both sectors, Nichola emphasised the need for more substantial and aligned government support to ensure high-quality care for communities.
“The cross-sector nature of HMT means we experience the consequences of these budget changes across both health and social care sectors. The autumn budget has highlighted an urgent need for more aligned and substantial government support. Only with investment can charities like HMT continue to drive forward the standards of care communities rely on.”
