We caught up with Dr Michael Shenouda to find out what made him decide to become a trustee, and what that journey has been like so far.

What inspired you to become a trustee at The Healthcare Management Trust?

“My journey from healthcare to industry has always been fuelled by a deep commitment to supporting healthcare providers in delivering the best care for their patients. My daily work involves running a digital health company, where we provide software solutions that empower healthcare professionals and organisations to focus on patient care. When the chance to become a Trustee at HMT came my way, I was struck by the organization’s mission, its hospitals, care homes, and the dedicated leadership team. Aligning with HMT’s ethos excited me, and I saw an opportunity to contribute my experience.”

What do you appreciate most about The Healthcare Management Trust’s work?

“While I’m relatively new here, two aspects have already impressed me. First, the unwavering commitment to patient and resident safety stands out. It’s not always a given in healthcare, but at HMT, patient safety is a top priority, with a culture that encourages all staff to raise concerns. Second, there’s a strong focus on staff well-being and motivation throughout the organisation, which I believe is vital for achieving our goals.”

What have you learnt during my time as a trustee at The Healthcare Management Trust?

“Although it’s still early in my tenure, I’ve gained valuable insights. Being a Charity Trustee adds an extra layer of responsibility in aligning with the charitable mission. It’s a unique learning experience, and I’m eager to continue growing in this role.”

Why should others consider becoming charity trustees?

“Becoming a trustee is an excellent way to give back to society while learning and growing. Whether you’re a seasoned board member or early in your career, being a trustee allows you to shape an organisation’s strategic direction, learn new skills, refine existing ones, and contribute your expertise for the greater good.”
