Jan Sanders
Jan Sanders is a trustee at HMT. She has spent 24 years as a partner in the projects team at the law firm Ashurst LLP, where she also served as a senior consultant upon her retirement. Her work focused on greenfield infrastructure projects as well as infrastructure mergers and acquisitions. During her time at Ashurst, she led numerous significant transactions, including the Barts and the Royal London Hospital Project, which involved establishing new cancer care and heart specialist units for the capital. Additionally, she played a role in the successful bid to host the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
In 2017, Jan became a Magistrate, where she now sits in both adult and youth courts. She joined HMT as a trustee in May 2022, aiming to apply her skills to give back to the community and keep her mind active. HMT was an ideal fit for her, given her background in healthcare and her personal interest in dementia, which is particularly significant as both her mother and sister developed early onset dementia. Jan has worked on several healthcare projects, including Barts and the London Royal, Newham, Durham, Dudley, and the Karolinska Hospital in Sweden. She has also participated in bidding for healthcare contracts in the Transforming Healthcare and End of Life sectors.
Outside of her professional commitments, Jan is an avid football fan and a season ticket holder. She enjoys being a hands-on grandmother to her four grandchildren and participates in fitness classes such as Body Combat, Body Pump, and Zumba. Additionally, she serves as a trustee for the Common Purpose Charitable Trust and the Association of Coloproctology in Great Britain and Ireland.
